Emerge Vermont Hires Rep Jill Krowinski as Executive Director

Burlington, VT.—Emerge Vermont, the state’s premier organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, announced today it has named Jill Krowinski as its new executive director. In this role, Krowinski will lead the organization and oversee its strategy and direction. She will also focus on recruitment of women to and implementation of Emerge Vermont’s candidate trainings. Krowinski brings years of experience in politics, nonprofit management and advocacy work to Emerge Vermont, which will be an invaluable asset to the organization as it works towards its goal of increasing the number of Democratic women in elected office in the Green Mountain State.

“Emerge Vermont is lucky to have Jill joining our team as executive director,” said Joan Lenes, Board Chair of Emerge Vermont. “Our organization is seeing an unprecedented amount of interest from women who want to run for office, so Jill joining Emerge Vermont couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. Jill’s expertise in electoral politics, as well as her background as a candidate and current Majority Leader in the state house, will further enhance our work and help our organization reach even more Democratic women. We are proud to add her to our amazing team and know she will be a great fit for our organization, which is at the heart of a powerful movement led by women that is sweeping Vermont and the country.”

“I’m honored to join the Emerge Vermont team and eager to build on the work to empower Democratic women across our state,” said Krowinski. “The organization already has a proven training program that is responsible for preparing numerous elected officials across Vermont, and I’m excited to contribute to its work. Our mission to inspire and prepare Democratic women for elected office is vital to ensuring all Vermont families have a fair shot. I cannot wait to graduate Emerge Vermont’s next class of aspiring political leaders, women who will be ready to run!”

Rep. Jill Krowinski is the House Majority Leader in the Vermont Legislature, where she’s served as a Representative since 2012. Krowinski has experience working at non-profits, political campaigns, and serving on community boards. Most recently she worked as Senior Advisor for Emerge Vermont. Prior to that role she worked at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England as the VP of Education and VT Community Affairs. Krowinski also served as a Commissioner for the Fletcher Free Library, Vice Chair of the Health Care Oversight Committee, and Chair of the Vermont Child Poverty Council. Krowinski is also the former Executive Director of the Vermont Democratic Party, has worked on several statewide campaigns, and served as a delegate for the American Council of Young Political Leaders in the Philippines. Krowinski is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

Since 2013, Emerge Vermont has recruited, trained and provided a powerful network to more than 90 Democratic women. In 2018, 18 Emerge Vermont alumnae that appeared on general election ballots won their races, including 13 who were elected to the state legislature. Currently, more than 40 Emerge Vermont alums serve in elected office.
