In 2017 she was elected Senate Majority Leader and in 2021 she was elected to be the first woman and first out LGBTQ+ person to be President Pro Tem. During her time in the Senate she served as the chair of the Senate Sexual Harassment Committee and has served on the Economic Development, Housing and General Affairs, Finance, and Rules committees. Rep. Balint announced her run for Congress to replace outgoing Rep. Peter Welch in 2021 and won her election with over 60% of the vote.
