The entire Emerge Vermont family is grateful to Senator Patrick Leahy for his decades of tireless service to Vermont. Our state is enormously fortunate to have been represented for so long by a public servant of such high integrity, who always ensures the needs of Vermonters are addressed by Congress and the federal government. Senator Leahy has always been an exemplary model of service and leadership and an inspiration to countless Vermonters who have run for office.
We thank Senator Leahy for his consistent advocacy over the years for women. From his strong positions on healthcare, housing, and jobs for all Americans to his annual Women’s Economic Opportunity Conference here in Vermont, the welfare of women has always been at the core of his work.
We wish both Marcelle and Senator Leahy the very best for the future, and we are deeply grateful for their dedication and service to Vermont.
With Senator Leahy’s announcement comes the possibility of Vermont—finally—electing a woman to represent our state in Congress. Emerge Vermont’s mission is to increase the number of Democratic women leaders from diverse backgrounds in public office through recruitment, training, and providing a powerful network. We are proud to have trained scores of Vermont women who have gone on to win statewide and local positions up and down the ballot, and we eagerly look forward to the 2022 campaign season when some incredibly talented Vermont women run for Congress—and one is elected.
